SPEEDING AND DEMERIT POINTS
Demerit Points and License Suspension
Demerit Points
Drivers convicted of speeding offences in Ontario can acquire demerit points depending on the actual offence. A driver begins with no demerit points and accumulates demerit points for speeding ticket convictions. Demerit points stay on a driver's record for two years. If the driver accumulates enough demerit points, a licence suspension can result. Though the accumulation of demerit points do not affect a driver's insurance rates directly, a licence suspension can increase the driver's premium.
