Position Overview:

Conducting adjournments, guilty pleas and trials within the Provincial Offences Courts in Niagara, Ontario.

Responsibilities:

·         Receive and implement instructions given by the Team Senior Paralegal;

·         Maintain contact with client regarding progress of the files;

·         Document and attend to communication and correspondence;

·         Manage and update the team calendar;

·         Document case events, track deadlines, and oversee team responses to deadlines;

·         Update team members on status of their calendars as needed;

·         Prepare defences on files.

·         Attend Court

·         Draft documents, motions, and letters as required;

·         Maintain physical files and electronic files in pristine order and update knowledge management systems as needed;

·         Any other tasks requested by the Senior Paralegal.

·         Handling a 100-150 file load

Requirements:

·         Licensed by the Law Society of Upper Canada

·         Confidence is a must!

·         Excellent computer skills

·         Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills

·         Independently motivated and proactive team player

·         Able to function well in stressful situations

·         Excellent time management skills

·         Excellent attention to detail and capable of multi-tasking

·         Positive attitude and the desire for a challenge is essential

·         Must have the ability to draft motions

Salary:

$410 to $650 a week to start (depending on experience) + gas

Hours:

8:00 am to 4:30 pm (must be able to work overtime hours and weekends when required)
